In the huge excavation conducted at Yavne by the Israel Antiquities Authority, they discovered this amethyst ring. What is interesting is it was found near a large wine making operation. People believed in those days amethyst was used to ward off hangovers. We can only speculate, but was this the wine owner’s own ring? Did an unlucky visitor after drinking too much, accidently lose the ring? We will never know.
